texting blog

I agree and disagree. because texting is changing the way everyone communicates and not in the best way. Some people will text someone that is sitting right next to them. But on the other hand texting makes things a lot easier and i agree it is kinda like a new language because old people don't understand the abbreviations and other stuff. But I think there is a very strong argument on both sides. Its kinda like one generation against the other. All the older people think texting and anything involving technology is a bad thing for lots of reasons. While the younger generation grew up in it and really that's all they know and i think that makes a big difference. Because young people have had access to this stuff there whole life and it kinda makes us as a society lazy. Because instead of going to see people anymore we just call them, or some don't even do that anymore some will just send a text. It is changing everything because if you think about it these social media apps and stuff are making people less social. So i do see why the older generation don't like it. But i do see the benefits of it and technology isn't gonna stop its gonna keep growing so i think it is important for everyone as a society to grow with technology.

  1. Texting is a powerful, but young tool. I think many people, not just kids, don't fully appreciate when it is appropriate to use it versus calling versus talking face to face. I would say face-to-face is always the most effective form of communication, but it isn't always the most practical. The great thing about texting is that, as my Communications textbook put it, it's asynchronous. I can send someone a text about some minor thing and if they're busy, they can ignore it until they have a minute. My wife and her employer would be upset if I called her every minute of the day to ask what she wants for dinner, or just to tell her something funny that happened. With a text, she can just write back to me when she has a minute.
I'll admit, I ignore some punctuation when I text, but I prefer to use full words and things like commas as much as possible. It's tiresome for me to read texts full of abbreviations, numbers and acronyms. It takes another second or two but chances are if I'm sending a text, it's not so urgent that those couple of seconds are critical.
