I was born in Florida, I lived there till i was 7 then i moved to Alabama. But my dad had got a new job so i had to move to Virginia right outside of Washington D.C. I really didn't now what to think about it I had always heard that people up north were really proper and all the stuff up there was just politics. But i was wrong there really is a whole lot different between the north and the south. The media perceives things different than what they are which can make you form the wrong opinion. But in my time living up there it felt different i lived up there for a year and went to the Smithsonian almost every weekend and couldn't make it through all the buildings there. The only thing i would say is a lot different is people up north are not as friendly as the people here and we talk different. Besides that i believe we are close to the same. But people kind of look at Alabama as the redneck state where everyone rides in big trucks and all the roads are dirt and we have no stores. But if people came here they would realize that aint true. The only thing about Alabama that is true is the roads are horrible and people here can not drive. I have went to many different states in the north and a lot of them were about the same. Some had a lot more stuff and had nicer areas than the others. Such as Virginia was nicer than North Carolina. But North Carolina was nice it had many things to do and seemed to me like a outdoors type state where it wasn't focused on mostly politics like D.C was. I always found it weird how we all believe the stories people tell us about other places and everyone gets told that and you cant form your own opinion till you go yourself. So I think it is good for people to go explore the country and see all the things they like in other places.
I spent 10 years living in Virginia near DC and North Carolina myself. I'd definitely describe NC as more rural, but otherwise they were very similar. People still went out to restaurants, went shopping at the mall and saw movies. Since then I've also spent time in Alaska, Texas and now Alabama. I've been to Germany a few times in my life and Italy once. What I've learned from living in so many diverse places is that wherever you are, big cities are the same and rural areas are the same. I feel like there are more differences between Montgomery and rural Alabama than there are between Montgomery and Würzburg.
