Motocross Zine 2
The sport is dangerous I've spent years racing and had my fair share of injuries. I will tell you the story of when I broke my first bone. It was a Friday afternoon I had gotten off work early and really wanting to go ride. I went home and loaded up my bike and decided to just go practice at the track down the road from my house. I went by myself because nobody was home. Normally I wouldn't do this because if I got hurt I would not have anyone there to help. I decided to go anyway.
So I get there and get my bike running. I look around and nobody is there at all. I get on and get my rhythm going and I rode for an hour or so. Then I got and took a break. I was really tired but I decided to ride a few for laps before leaving. I got on and first lap I messed up really bad on the biggest jump out there, it was one hundred feet. Luckily I didn't crash on that lap.It had rained the day before which messed up a lot of the riding conditions.I went around the next time and came up short on the same jump but this time it had bottomed out my suspension and threw me off the bike!
I landed right on my head and my helmet went right into my collarbone and snapped it. Well I didn't know that until I got up and tried raising it. Plus from the impact of hitting the ground made me go blind for a few minutes so I sat down and tried to regain my sight. After doing that I picked up my bike which was not a easy task and pushed it back to my truck. It took all my strength to load it up. I then called my dad and told him my collarbone was broke and he told me he would meet me at the hospital. Which then I got in my truck and left and it was hard to drive because every bump I hit would move it. Then on my way down there im just sitting there thinking how am I going to be able to work on Monday. I worked construction at the time. Which is kinda hard to do with one arm. But the funny part was the hospital is across the street from where is worked. So I finally made it to the hospital my dad made it there and we went in.
They asked me what was wrong, I told them that my collarbone was broken and they said to sit down. So I sat there and waited for what felt like days and then they took me back and started asking questions. Which I feel is kinda unnecessary, they questioned me for around ten minutes probably. Then they took me back to a room, and the doctor comes in. He asked what was wrong and I told him my collarbone was broke, which then he decided to me a wanna be comedian and wow I didn't know you were a doctor you can diagnose yourself? This honestly ticked me off a little because I was hurting and if you looked at it you could tell very easily it was broke. But he left and they roll in the xray machine. Took a xray then left and the doctor came back in. He said well I guess you diagnosed yourself it is broke but here is a brace to help you keep it still. So I leave there and go to work and told my boss what happened. To which he calls me stupid and told me to stay off of the bikes. He then said I couldn't come back until I had a release that said I could.
This made a lot of things difficult because I am not sure how I will bring in money now. Also on top of that I had to help move my dads friend out of his house. My dad said not to go do it but I did anyway. It hurt but I was fine. Then I had to go see a bone doctor so I could get released to go to work. I told the doctor i felt fine and was ready to go back and he told me that it would be four to six weeks before it would be healed. Then he said he would release me to do light duty work but i needed to take it easy. This was one week after I had broke it. Overall I would say yeah I have been injured from motocross many times and it is risky and everyone asks the same question to me, why do you ride it is dangerous? The only answer I have for that is you would have to try it for yourself and you would understand.
